Back to School Checklist

It’s back to school time, which means those vehicles on the road are more important than ever. With the need to get the kids to the school bus or to school itself, it’s very important to keep your vehicle running in tip top shape so you can focus on the road ahead.  Here are some tips to make sure you are ready for the school year.

-          Check all your interior and exterior lights

o   You want to make sure that your lights are all in working condition as we come upon shorter days so that you can see and be seen.

-          Check your windshield wiper blades front and back

o   Even though it’s still beautiful weather now, Inclement weather is on its way in Northern Michigan.  Make sure your wiper blades clear the window completely so your view is not obstructed.

-          Make sure your brakes are functioning properly

o   Grinding, pulsating or squeaking noises are all signs that your brakes need to be serviced.

-          Check your tires for excessive wear and/or over or under inflation

o   If your tires aren’t up to par, it affects steering, braking and just overall performance of your car.  Make sure your tires are inflated to manufacturer specs and that you have enough tread.  Check to see if it is time for new tires or a tire rotation.

-          Make sure everyone in the vehicle is buckled up

o   Stress the importance of seatbelts to everyone in the vehicle.  Most accidents happen close to home or school so you always want to be prepared

Sit down with your kids and go over the importance of being aware of your surroundings at all times.  Even though pedestrians have the right of way, you can never be too cautious.  As a driver, you need to always have your eyes on the road and minimize distractions so you can see everything going on around you.

Auto Group wishes you and your friends and family the best for the 2016-2017 school year!
